I first saw a published copy of the Mississippi Atlas of Historical County Boundaries, John H. Long, editor and compiled by Peggy Tuck Sinko (1993) at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. I later purchased a copy of this book and find it very useful in my research. Even a small change in a county boundary could pose a problem in finding the needed records. Having this information online for the other states is very useful.
