Changing Titles of Databases

The date a database was used is crucial to any citation. So is the title of the database and the website on which it was hosted.

Database titles can change–sometimes slightly and sometimes significantly.

Websites can, for one reason or another, pull databases.

If you know that a database has undergone a title change, consider noting that as well.

I have noticed recently that several Ancestry city directory databases will have a title “City 1993-2007” and then the individual record will show “street address, city, state 1993-2007” rather than the specific year that the person was listed on that street in the city directory. That is not near as helpful when tracing an individual or determining the year someone moved.
